To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius’s birth, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle are releasing their recording of the complete symphonies of the composer in an exclusive hardcover edition. The recording will be released on 25th September on the orchestra’s own label, Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings.

Sir Simon Rattle on the music of Jean Sibelius: “In my view, Sibelius is one of the most staggeringly original composers that there is. He is an absolute grandmaster of form, which he reinvents again and again with every composition.”

The Berliner Philharmoniker can look back on a long Sibelius tradition: In 1902, one of his works was on the programme for the first time, under the direction of the composer. And in 1905, Sibelius also conducted the first performance of his Second Symphony with the Philharmoniker. Since then, many of his works have regularly appeared in the orchestra’s concerts.
